Letter’s of Support: Lisa’s Story
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my strong support for the Computer Technologies Program (CTP) and its mission to improve employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
My connection to CTP is deeply personal. I began my journey through the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) after a back-related medical issue required me to reduce my work to part-time. At that point, I realized I could no longer continue in my hospitality career and needed guidance to find a new path forward. Through DOR, I was introduced to CTP, which became a turning point for me.
I first participated in a Digital Career Compass assessment class with Devin and Alex, who were incredibly supportive and encouraging. They helped me see that building new skills and starting a different career path was truly possible. After completing my assessment, Devin guided me in selecting the courses that would best support my goals.
I began with Computer Essentials, then continued to Computer Skills Bootcamp, and later completed the Professional Customer Service/Administrative Assistant training. Each step built my confidence and expanded my technical and professional abilities. I also participated in the SJS Job Search program, which further prepared me for entering the workforce.
CTP has been a transformative experience for me. Through the program, I developed skills in Google Workspace applications, data entry, time management, and professional communication. I gained hands-on experience using tools such as Google Sheets, where I learned to apply formulas and complete projects that once felt challenging. In addition, I built confidence through presentations, mock interviews, and learning proper Zoom etiquette.
I am currently serving as an Administrative Assistant intern with CTP, with my internship running through May 2026. In this role, I actively apply what I’ve learned in a real-world setting by researching job opportunities, posting listings, and supporting workforce development efforts for other participants. This experience has strengthened my communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, while also giving me a deeper understanding of how to support others in their job search.
One of the most meaningful aspects of CTP is the support from the instructors and staff. Their dedication to helping participants succeed is evident in everything they do—from teaching technical skills to guiding us through resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation. Because of their support, I now feel more prepared, capable, and motivated to pursue my career goals.
The impact of CTP is real and lasting. It not only provides job training but also empowers individuals to build confidence, independence, and a path toward meaningful employment. Programs like CTP are essential in creating inclusive opportunities and strengthening the workforce.
At a time when programs like CTP face funding challenges, continued support is critical. I strongly encourage investment in CTP so they can continue providing these life-changing services to others.
Because of CTP, I am now confidently pursuing a career as an Administrative Assistant.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Lisa Jaco
